Program
A large part of our programming is devoted to a child's social development. Children that have strong social skills are more likely to be happier, productive students in later years. As
pre-school teachers, we are most likely to be your child's first experience with a school environment. Within the classroom, our goal is to teach the whole child. Learning how to be kind, thoughtful, helpful, honest, compassionate, and brave, is just as important as learning ABC's and 123's. Pre-schoolers also need opportunities to problem-solve, negotiate, and verbally express their feelings. At Lakeside Pre-school, we hope to engage your child in learning so they may fully experience and appreciate the beauty and wonder in the world around them.
Daily Activities include:
Free Play ~ provides an opportunity to try new activities, builds confidence to make choices, enables children to seek out friends with common interests, gain an understanding of the classroom environment.
Arts & Crafts ~ encourages creativity, builds imagination, strengthens fine motor skills, draws attention to detail, offers exposure to sequencing and patterning, allows for exploration and experimentation with materials, colours, and textures, emphasizes the
process of art, and not the product.
Circle Time/Story Time ~ encourages children to listen, sit quietly, respect others and their personal space, learn new vocabulary, concepts, numbers, and colours, allows for enjoyment of the spoken word.
Music ~ promotes self-expression and enjoyment of sound, encourages movement and relaxation, exposes the child to a variety of musical instruments in varied cultures, fosters an overall appreciation of the arts.
Dramatic Play ~ allows for role-play, opportunities for problem solving and negotiation.
Outdoor Play ~ develops gross motor skills, appreciation of nature, enhances observation skills, provides a safe environment for healthy competition, fosters respect for wildlife and their habitat.
Science and Nature ~ allows opportunities for prediction and theory, increases sense of wonder, promotes interest in learning and exploring, exposes child to following procedures, sequence of events, and methodology.
Games ~ enables child to follow directions and wait their turn, learn a sense of fair play, encourages team spirit, exposes child to win/lose situations.
Show & Tell ~ builds self-confidence, enhances public speaking skills, increases attention span, encourages laughter, provides opportunities for training in sensitivity and compassion, allows child to practice patience.
